Stories of Grace: Katie Weakland

March 21, 2025

we kick off our STORIES OF GRACE series, highlighting God’s faithfulness and loving-kindness in the lives of Bethel University faculty and staff.

Dr. Katie Weakland has served at Bethel University for 15 years, teaching environmental science, botany and zoology, and reminding our community that it is our responsibility as Christians to care for Our Father’s world.

Katie has lived a surrendered life, serving her Savior as a campus staff member for Intervarsity Christian Fellowship and as a missionary to Tajikistan where she proclaimed the gospel and worked to alleviate poverty, improve healthcare and access to clean water, and to provide services for children with disabilities in rural villages.

She leads a weekly small group Bible study for her Church, and started a “flower ministry,” where she grows and shares fresh cut flowers with friends and strangers as a ministry of encouragement.

Katie loves gardening, hiking, birding, traveling, and kayaking.
